Golf Practice Tips: Unconventional Shots To Help You Prepare For ANY Scenario

The secret to becoming a better golf player is really no secret at all. It just takes practice, plain and simple. The only way to straighten out your long shots, master your bunker shots, or sink the majority of your putts with ease is to invest into your practice time wisely.

The Unconventional Approach

I am sure that you are well aware of the benefits that golf practice ranges can have on both your tee-off shots and your short game approach. However, the ideal set of scenarios that you will face during any real golf game does not particularly exist in such “safe” practice zones. In other words, try something different, break the mold.

When playing on the golf course, you can usually improvise or create an uncommon or unconventional shot to make for future scenarios. So when it comes to practice, why not practice some of these situations more often and prepare yourself for those inevitable pitfalls and unwanted mistakes on the golf course? If anything, taking rare types of swings and bizarre shots will break the monotony of your practice sessions.

Preparing For Any Condition

The last thing you want to do is start knocking golf balls from a busy road, but if you have a standard course that you play on regularly that contains a cart path, then by all means, start making shots directly from this road during your practice sessions.

Try hitting a couple of 5 Irons back into the game as part of your practice regimen. This way you are prepared for the shot if it ever comes up (and it will). Many professional golf players practice in this same manner. In fact, you can read about how Tiger Woods will practice like this on any course he has to play on.

Tip: Do not use your good set of clubs for some of these practice shots. You do not want to damage them. Instead, go shopping for some older irons that are similar to the clubs you use and practice with them. This will prevent repeated damage to your quality golf clubs.

A Few More Unconventional Shots You Can Practice With

Just to give you a few more practice ideas and allow your creative juices to start flowing, here is a brief list of unconventional shots that you can add to your golf practice regimen:

1. Use a 3-Wood to chip the ball.
2. Turn your club over in order to play from the side of a tree.
3. Play from the road.
4. Hit several shots from an inch or more of water.
5. Putt from the bunker area.
6. Bellying a wedge.
7. Play the ball from up against a wall or fence.
8. Bury the ball deep in sand and hit it back into play, otherwise known as a “fried egg” shot.
9. Play a few shots from rough, dried out grass.
10. Putt the ball with a 3-Wood.

By chance, if you are those talented and creative individuals who have some clear affinity with needles and threads, you might have discovered long ago that such skill in needlework and sewing can certainly come in handy in a number of occasions. In fact some people who have taken up the hobby have moved into making it a highly profitable business. However, as they always say there is always some room for improvement. That means you are probably ready to test your mettle in another form of needlework – quilting. For beginners, this might be a little complicated craft that requires some familiarity and a degree of expertise in sewing. However, this might just be the little challenge you need to perk up your otherwise boring Sunday afternoons.

Creative quilting is the new rage in the quilting world, mainly because it elevates the craft to a higher plane, with every piece of material is handcrafted to size. Most of the creative quilting designs often depict landscapes, flowerbeds and even homes, all from pictures and given life through quilts. It is so much like cross-stitch where a Polaroid picture comes alive in a needlework masterpiece that you can easily hang in the walls, too. So if you want to ‘step outside the box’ and try your hand to yet another form of needlework, then creative quilting is just right up your alley.

If the interest is strong and you will like to enhance your skill in creative quilting, many workshops are available for you to enroll or participate in to help you get started on your hobby. Many of these workshops have classes that lasts for two to fives days depending on the subjects taught, most of them will include the necessary supplies needed. To find these courses you can search online, get information from quilting enthusiasts or from community centers. For a start you can easily visit the website http://mcq.bc.ca for more comprehensive details on the descriptions of the various courses offered along with the rates as quoted in the online site.

Courses with short durations are ideal for weekend recreational activities and they provide you the necessary skills to improve on your quilting. You may never know where your foray into quilting may lead you, you might just be able to develop an expertise in creative quilting that you can even sell some of your masterpieces to some of your friends and hopefully put up a shop in the future. This type of quilting is still in its infancy stage that means you can easily find a market for such intricate quilt pieces. Think of how such seemingly simple decision can open up a world of possibilities for you.

The Advantages Of Wireless Internet

There are a great many things that are wonderful when you can consider yourself self-employed. This means you can set your own hours, and decide how much or how little work you would like to do. You can also work anywhere, especially if your work revolves around the use of a computer. Those who work at home can greatly benefit from having wireless Internet. This means you are not longer chained to your desk, and that is probably one of the reasons why you work at home in the first place. Wireless gives you some freedom to move about your property.

Our family has wireless Internet simply because we have more than one computer. My husband has a desktop, and I have a laptop. I can move about the house with my computer if I want to, though I do have to watch the range of my wireless Internet. I can even go outside to work if I want to, but the signal strength does go down. I can work from my front porch and in the half of my yard that is closest to the house. That means summer days don’t have to be spent inside. I might not get as much done outside, but I can work and enjoy the sunshine when I want to do so.

Another great thing about wireless Internet for those who are working away from an office setting is that you can get service in some public places. This means you might be able to get away from a loud house to go to a café or coffee spot to do your work. You may have people around, but you can probably get your work done. You have to find a place that offers wireless Internet, but those are not too hard to find in almost any city or town.

When traveling, many hotel chains offer wireless Internet as well. You can usually use it in the lobby, or you can hook up in your room. This is because many travel for business reasons, and they need to have access to the Internet. In most cases, this is a free service that hotels provide. If they did not have this, they know business people would move to another hotel that does have it. The only drawback is that wireless might not be as secure, so don’t check bank accounts and other personal accounts while using it.

Unique Halloween Costume Ideas: What Are The Coolest Costumes This Year?

Posted September 6th, 2008 by
Categories: family Activities

Each Halloween you are given the opportunity to show your creativity with your Halloween costume ideas. The possibilities are nearly endless once your creative juices start to flow. Halloween costumes can be grouped into several sub categories. We’re going to give you a few suggestions to help you get your creative juices flowing.

Halloween Costumes On a Budget

When you are decorating yourself or your kids for the holiday and you don’t want to break the bank, have a look at what you have around the house first.. You can easily create a Gypsy costume by layering jewelry, skirts, scarves and by caking on the makeup! Ghosts can be made of a sheet or pillowcase and a pair of scissors. Clown costumes are easily created with a sweat outfit and make-up. No clown costume is complete without a multi-colored wig that you can find at your local shopping center. Dressing up like a zombie is always fun too. Just take some jeans, an old T-shirt, and rip it to shreds! Then find one of those makeup kits and add dark circles, blood and whatever other creepy effects that will complement your face paint kit and your zombie costume.

Unique Halloween Costume Ideas

There are so many different ways to dress up for Halloween. If you put your mind to it there are many things you have around the house that can make up a unique costume. You can dress up as a head on a platter by putting a table cloth on card board and gluing paper picnic settings to it. Then all you need to do is put the costume on around your neck so that just your head is sticking out of the center. This takes very little work but the reactions you get will be amazing. There are many other ideas but the most unique often happen when you really put your mind to work seeking the rare. If you’re just looking for a cool costume, one of the hottest this year is going to be Joker and Batman costumes of the Dark Knight. Another great way to get ideas is to look at the costumes that stores are selling on the internet and think how you can recreate them at home if you’re on a limited budget.

Sexy Halloween Costumes

If you’re into sexy Halloween costumes, one of the most popular costumes is a Pirate Costume or a French maid. Dressing up like a French maid or a playboy bunny is always fun. Another option you might consider is dressing up as your favorite movie star if it is someone who might be easy to duplicate. If you can think of someone you like to watch on the big screen you can dress like a character they play in your favorite movie. Dressing up as Marilyn Monroe is an obvious choice, but you could dress up as Angelina Jolie in Tomb Raider or even Christian Bale as Batman in the Dark Knight.

Couples Halloween Costumes

When you and a friend or your significant other go to a party as a couple it can be fun to dress up like your favorite duo. These can be male/female couples or others like Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid can be fun. An angel and the Devil together is always a way to make a statement. Newly weds going as a bride and groom don’t always go over as well as you would think, but newlyweds “from beyond the grave” you might be able to pull off! If you want to play it safe, stick with characters like Bonnie and Clyde, Batman and Robin, or other characters who are well known.

Group costume ideas

Some group costume ideas might include rounding up your group of friends with each choosing a Star wars costume. Groups of friends dressing up as the Three (or more) Musketeers, a Harry Potter costume along with his friends, groups of Zombies, and your favorite rock band lets others at the party know you are together. Groups of witches and wizards from specific houses at Hogwarts are fun too, especially if you can get cousins together and each family dress up in costumes from a different house.

You could choose from a variety of Disney costumes such as Winnie-the-Pooh and his friends or even some of the characters from Pirates of the Caribbean movies. No matter what costumes or theme you come up with, group costumes are always a blast to think up and design together.

Whatever costumes you choose have fun coming up with your Halloween costume ideas. Let your hair down and see how creative you can be. If you already have a general idea of what you want to be, start thinking how you can improve upon your Halloween costume so you can win that Halloween costume contest this year!

My favorite tomato sauce

Posted September 5th, 2008 by
Categories: family Activities

I’ve wasted more of my hard earned money on jars of spaghetti sauce than I care to admit. My cupboard was full of those big jars that I bought “at a great price” at one of those ridiculously large grocery stores. I felt prepared to cook up a storm and make everything you could imagine with those big jars at the ready. And, yes, I would open one, pour it over some sort of pasta and vegetable concoction and dinner was served. Of course, I would never use a whole jar and would promptly forget about the leftovers until I inevitably discovered it growing mold in the back of my refrigerator. And once again I would exclaim “If only I could find a quick, cheap and easy seasoned tomato sauce that I could make when I needed one!”. Well, problem solved. I no longer lug huge jars of sauce home and turn them into science experiments in my refrigerator. I easily make a great, fresh, flavorful sauce when I need it and fancy up the ingredients when it suits me. This sauce is simply perfect. Enjoy!

Hobbies For Kids - Get Them Acquainted With The Real World

Posted September 5th, 2008 by
Categories: Crafts Hobbies

Although computers and technology are a wonderful development in the modern world, many parents wonder if the virtual world endangers their children’s natural social development. This is a legitimate worry. Some kids spend all of their spare time finding entertainment on the web, playing video games and chatting with online friends. Kids must also engage in real world activities in order to develop well rounded social skills. Parents often have a difficult time convincing kids that this is true. Here are some ways you can pry the kids away from the computer without any objections on their part.

Not into hobbies for kid’s, what about an article on say, a Barbecue Grill. You know it’s only a click away.

Whether kids will admit it or not, all kids like fun in the company of other kids their own age. The trick to encouraging hobbies for kids that they’ll beg you to let them do is to allow them to lead you to the activities they enjoy. For example, if your child has been invited by a friend to an ice skating party and your child wants to go, make every effort to accommodate the request. If you need to drive them, make the time to do so. This may become a weekly activity which provides healthy exercise, fun and a trip off the couch and into the real world. If your kid enjoyed swimming in grade school, but hasn’t participated in years, suggest joining a swim club at the teen center or Y.

Real world hobbies for kids that develops social skills

Real world hobbies for kids that develop social skills needn’t be sports-related. Playing chess, sewing, wood working and art are all good examples. Whenever kids have interactive social relationships with their peers, such activities help build confidence, self esteem and a better understanding of themselves and others.

Misunderstandings that may occur in online relationships are generally not resolved satisfactorily. Kids tend to simply shut that individual out. Real world hobbies for kids which require face to face conversation are more likely to be resolved with some diplomacy and compromise. The real companion is more important than someone they can’t see and don’t know personally.

Yet other good hobbies for kids include painting, making models, stamp collecting and crafts. Hobbies which involve using their hands to express themselves or create something artistic are excellent ways to let kids see that technology doesn’t hold all the answers. Taking summer classes and workshops puts them in a group of their peers.

Although your kids will not likely give up their net activities and virtual friends, they’ll also be unlikely to give up their new hobbies with kids in the neighborhood.

Don’t try to push kids into activities they don’t enjoy. There are enough they will enjoy, if you give them half a chance and a gentle, low-profile push in the right direction.

Finding The Best Woodworking Projects And Hobbies

Posted September 5th, 2008 by
Categories: Crafts Hobbies

I always loved do it yourself projects, but up until recently, space has been a problem. I could only do the most simple home projects in my small apartment. Carpentry projects were right out of the question. Instead, I would content myself to work with clay, wire, and other simple materials. I would make many sculptures and pictures, but I would also make household implements such as spice racks and shelves. The only woodworking projects I could engage in were the smallest ones. I could do whittling, wood carving, and little else. I just simply did not have the space or the tools.

Now, suddenly, I have a new house. You can bet that I’m going to get into some woodworking projects! I’ve been waiting for this for a long time. Growing up, I always took woodshop projects for granted. You see, my father was a professional woodworker when he was young. Although he changed careers, he still kept a passion for woodworking projects that he passed on to me. I can remember building a go cart with my father when I was 12 years old. It was one of the most exciting things that I have ever done. I loved watching the pieces go together. I still can’t get over how neat it was. You start with raw pieces of wood, and end up with a finished, sleek looking machine.

Living in a city like I do, however, woodworking projects have been out of the question for a long time. I guess it was worth the sacrifice, because I needed to get out of the small town where I grew up, but I miss working with my hands on my own projects. Doing the small craft stuff was fun, but real woodwork projects are what I live for. I actually work as an apprentice to a carpenter, and although I can occasionally use his shop, my own personal projects often get left by the wayside. If you are into doing your own woodworking projects, there is no substitute for having your own space. My boss was nice about it at first, but eventually he kicked me out of his Woodworking shop. Now that I have a whole workshop for my woodworking projects, he can have his space and I can have mine. I cannot remember the last time I was so happy. I am so excited that I can’t even decide where to start. Fortunately, there is plenty of time for all my woodworking projects.
